October 2010 Newsletter

Dear family and friends, October 7, 2010

“He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty” Ps. 91:1. In July and August I was with people in Japan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Peru, Kenya, and Sudan, and all were enjoying worship and fellowship in the shadow. If His shadow is this big, how much bigger is the Most High? What a privilege to be with loved ones in all these places and find the boundaries of the Shadow always beyond my eye. And so, based on eye witness account, I proclaim to you this good news: The King is in this world and He’s on the move, to rule His people with power and love.

Now back in my work in Southern Sudan, I’ve enjoyed a wonderful reunion with friends and co-workers, and am finding the radio ministry growing such that even now I am not caught up with it. My radio team (John, Karlo, and Peter) has been hard at work, the equipment has been performing well, and testimonies continue to encourage us. Our signal footprint is greater than we’d hoped for, a region populated by 3-4 million people, and pastors are reporting many new people coming into their churches because of what they’re hearing on the radio. All this in answer to your prayers!

Alou and Wul have eagerly resumed our Bible study 3 times a week. We just finished Genesis and now begin Exodus. Alou is also receiving training to be the first ruling elder in the Parot church. Pray…see below.

While I was gone, cell phone service finally came to our area and with it access to internet via modems. So now I’m able to email freely, do research on the internet, and skype when there’s a strong signal…all from my little tin house. We thank God for this great technical blessing, and it gives us hope that one day Southern Sudan will also have good public roads, water, septic, power, health, schools, business…. We believe that the power of the Gospel not only transforms people, but also communities and nations. This is a big order, but then again, I never was able to see the outer edges of that shadow….amen?

And now a few specific prayer requests:

1. Wisdom to learn from a survey of our listenership being conducted right now.

2. The ability to lead Alou and Wul in seeing good news in the book of Exodus.

3. Joy and strength in heat – it’s between the rainy and dry seasons and high humidity moves somewhat moderate temperatures upward.

4. Wisdom to hold together growth and stability in the radio ministry.

5. Calm and humble hearts of national leaders in preparation for the January referendum.

Soli graci,

Scott
